“ Came to Sheng Kee Bakery to try their ham and egg bun and compare it to Pineapple King next door. It was very good--the steamed egg was well made without excessive seasoning, which I appreciate, as some Asian bakeries tend to overdo it. However, I wasn't a fan of the mayonnaise they used as a sauce; I think it would have tasted better without it. The staff here are very friendly and even heated up my bun upon request! I also asked for a recommendation since it was my first time, and the kind lady suggested their Portuguese egg tart. It was pretty good--not too sweet and with a strong eggy flavor, which I liked. The atmosphere inside is welcoming, and I could tell it's a neighborhood favorite, with locals hanging out and catching up. They have a wide selection of Chinese and Taiwanese-style baked goods, and I'll definitely be back to try more savory items based on other reviews! ”

“ Every time I'm around Westlake Shopping Center, it's like my legs automatically take me towards Sheng Kee Bakery. It's become a ritual at this point, Hot Dog Bun, Curry Horn, and Chicken Pie. These three are my undefeated champions, and no matter how many options they have (and trust me, they have a lot), I just can't resist sticking to the classics. The bakery itself is pretty spacious, with a seating area where you can sit back and enjoy your snacks like royalty. They also have cakes for special occasions and drinks like coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and sodas. But you know what would take this place to the next level? A mango slush! Imagine sipping on that while munching on a Curry Horn...Hint hint, Sheng Kee ;) The service is good, fast, friendly, and efficient. When you walk in, you grab a tray and clamps to pick your treats. Once you've loaded up, you head to the checkout, where they accept both cash and cards (bonus points for convenience!) I will continue to stop by whenever I find myself around the area! “ Sheng Kee is a great place to get a quick and easy last minute cake order done right! My friend and I called in on Tuesday to place an order for three birthday cakes to be picked up on Friday. The pick-up process was fuss-free with a quick inspection of the cakes and white chocolate message plaques. We got the 8" tiramisu, pig cake, and bear cake. All cake layers were light and airy and the cream wasn't too thick or too sweet. The animal cakes had a lot of cream to help create that dome shape. Overall, I would definitely return to Sheng Kee for a cake order! It's well worth the price. Unfortunately, we got straight to eating the cake and didn't capture any good pictures lol. ”

On my recent visit, "Ham and egg in a roll" and small moon cakes range from three to five dollars, daily special of pineapple Hong Kong round pastry bun and milk tea combo for less than a Lincoln (Fi Dolla Bell). Service is serviceable and quick. No returns or refunds, even if you don't open stuff purchased and changed mind about -- much to the chagrin of my sibling. Busy loud tea coffee shop atmosphere. You mainly want to get your goods and go. They do have seating and tables. Do swing by and judge for yourself if it's where you may like to sit and sip and snack. So here ya have it. Sheng Kee on Irving at 21st Avenue is the OG of da OG, premiere Taiwan bakery, probably very first one that opened in all of Cali, let alone America. And now, decades on, it's a distinct chain for yummy consistent goodies. No question: five star Baker Bomb a Roni bakery, bake-y wake-y, all day, every day. Jump on it when in the Sunset 'hood. ”

“ This flagship store is where I found my first job when it first opened and transitioned from a Russian bakery to a Taiwan bakery. Back then, the pastries weren't wrapped and picked from the shelves - customers had to order everything from me at the counter! Decades later, it's still the best place to buy mooncakes to celebrate mid Autumn Festival. Now they have flavors ranging from the traditional lotus with egg yolk to chocolate, coconut and black truffle (pictured). Few people sit and eat here as it was before. Still, the Gao family delivers their pastries now throughout their stores in the Bay Area. ”

“ The red bean pineapple bun here is amazing. It's cash-only, but so are most Asian bakeries. I was taken aback by some of the other reviews, but when I went most of the pastries were wrapped in plastic (hopefully this resolves the fly issue)? ”

“ Stumbled upon this place on a Sunday afternoon and picked up a ham and egg bun along with their early bird special of a Hong Kong style milk tea and a pineapple bun. The food tasted really fresh and the egg was really thick and jiggly which I liked. The service was great as the worker was really helpful and the prices are unbeatable. Will be coming back here again! ”

“ Not my go to place to get fresh Asian baked goods. The pork bun, egg custard, and pineapple bun that I have tried were so so. But, one Sunday I needed a birthday cake quick and I came in about 10 minutes before closing and got their mango mouse cake. They weren't able to personalize the sign but they were able to stick a happy birthday sign on the cake for free. For having it been a last minute cake pick up, the mango mouse cake was a hit with my relatives that were over. So if I ever need a last minute cake again, I will think of their mango mouse cake. ”
